What
Birds Love
Creating
a backyard area for the wild birds to come is a delicate
balance between nature and yourself. Wild birds are not
going to allow you to pet them or hold them, but you can
watch them with great interest as they flitter, perch,
and feeder from your bird feeder.
In
building and creating a backyard bird watching habitat,
there are a few things to keep in mind. A bird watching
backyard is going to be a mixture of food, water, shelter,
and large spaces. The food and water is what you are going
to provide so the birds continually come back to you back
yard.
The
shelter is going to be some type of covering to keep the
birds protected from the wind, rain and even snow. The
shelter that you provide could be a bird house, a few
shrubs, bushes, or trees, or perhaps you created another
type of covering that will allow the birds a place to
rest before or after eating.
Along
with planning of your source of food, water, and shelter,
you also need to think a little about how other your area
is used. If you have several children that play in the
area where you are going to place your bird house, you
will only see the birds during quiet times when the children
are not playing in the yard.
The
wild bird will be somewhat afraid of the noise, and motion
of all types of people in the habitat, but they will come
when the backyard is quiet and when it is empty so you
could use your backyard for both bird watching and the
children!
Wild
birds are going to love the area that is a little quieter
in the mornings and in the evenings. Birds are going to
enjoy flying through your yard as they have a uninterrupted
area where they can flitter about, while you watch them
from the garden, from the porch or even from the window
during the mid winter months.
