Hummingbirds
Hummingbirds
Hummingbirds
are tiny creatures, a small bird that feeds on the
sweet nectar of flowers. Just as you can bring wild
birds to your landscape, you can bring hummingbirds
to your backyard or garden by putting hummingbird
feeders in your plans.
Hummingbird
feeders hold liquid instead of seeds as your bird
feeders do. The sweet liquid in the hummingbird feeder
is quite easy to make, often sugar and water will
do the trick, and as a few drops of food coloring
and the tiny creatures will come.
Hummingbirds
are small, but very fast. While you are watching the
hummingbird feeder, you might see one flitter in and
flitter out fast, and another will come along. The
hummingbird is attracted not only to the smell of
the sweet nectar, the sugar, but also it is attracted
to bright colors. Often you will see a hummingbird
feeder is created from two contrasting colors, such
as red and yellow, or orange and yellow, to catch
the hummingbird's eye.
Using
a combination of flowers and hummingbird feeders you
are going to find your backyard a very exciting place
to be, watching all of the hummingbirds fly through
your gardens during the spring, summer and fall months.
To
bring even more hummingbirds to your gardens and to
your landscapes there are several types of flowers
that you can plant in your gardens as well.
Just
a few plants that you can plant along side your hummingbird
feeder are plants such as Bird of Paradise, Bleeding
Heart, Butterfly Bush, Cannas, Cape Honeysuckle, Phlox,
Plaintain Lily, Red Mint, Red Morning Glory, and Red
Sage, but there are many more!
If
you want to experience a truly different type of bird
in your garden, use a hummingbird feeder and watch
these little creatures flitter in happiness around
your feeder as they suck on the sweet nectar!
