Summer Feeding
Summer
Feeding
Birds
flock to your bird feeders in the winter months as
they need food to survive, there is little other food
to be found during the winter months. During the summer
months, your bird feeder is still a major portion
of the wild bird eating habits.
During
the summer months, you may find that your food is
lasting a little longer, but the birds will continue
to thrive around the habitat that you are creating
in your backyard. Because the birds feel safe near
the bird feeder, as this a place where predators and
elements of nature can't harm them as often, they
will perch in the trees, bushes and in the backyard
all summer long.
What
can you expect in the spring and summer months from
the birds that visit your feeder? You can expect your
birds to feed a little less, as the insects are more
prevalent at this time of year.
You
can still watch birds from your windows in the early
morning or in the mid afternoons. After feedings,
birds will take flight for exercise and a little adventure.
In
the spring and summer months you can expect that mother
birds are going to build nests that are relatively
close to the habitat of the feeder that you have set
up. Nests can often be found in the trees, shrubs,
and in bushes near where you have your bird feeder
hanging. If you were to build a platform or install
a birdhouse near the feeder, the birds that feed from
your feeder will build a nest.
During
the summer, it will remain important to keep your
bird feeders full. Mothering birds in your backyard
may need an extra boost of food as they feed their
young and are unable to leave the nest for long. Having
bird feeders through the spring and summer helps those
birds who are too sickly to get their own food survive
a little longer no matter what time of the year it
is.
In
the seasons when it is warm out and you are keeping
your birds happy with a full feeder, you will have
to be careful about your birdseed. During the hot
and humid months, the seed can cause insects and pests
to be attracted to the feed. Keep your bird seed and
feed in a sealed container or at least in a shady
cool
Feeding
the wild birds in the spring and summer months is
a sure fire way to make sure your birds will stay
through the winter months, as they will learn to rely
on your food source.
